I’ve been very busy lately with all things so this announcement is a bit delayed.
Well, like the title says, I’m an official team member of the Microsoft Student Partners team from TUCN (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca). Due to my implication in the last year’s MSP events (like .NET Summer Rally) and my wish of becoming a MSP, the MSP Team recommended me for being a member in their team (thanks team!).
So being a MSP member I want to make more, learn more and help other people learning new Microsoft’s technologies. So stay tuned for announcements about the upcoming events (I hope we will make another .NET summer rally event too, this summer ).
If you want to contact me, my new e-mail address is timotei.dolean [at] student-partners.com

Updated: thnx Tudi for the fix!

Hello again.
I just came back to Cluj from Galaciuc. It was a long and funny week so I have to write some personal impressions about this.
Well first of all InfoEducatie is a national software and web programming contest. Every year in August it is hosted like a holiday camp in Galaciuc, Vrancea, in the “deep” of the mountains, far away from “civilization”.
I went to the contest with my project InfoCenter, a platform for learning informatics. If you want to test it you can download it from the bottom of the post. I have released the source code also, so anyone can look how I worked. If you want to use any part of my project please let me know. Of course you can also ask me for help if you encounter any problems understanding the source code.
Moving back, the camp is very cool. You make there a lot of friends, discuss different topics and of course, go on trips in the places around. But the most enjoying thing was the Open section of the contest. Every first 5 teams from each category(educational software, utility software and web development) start a 24 hour “contest” where you have to code an application based on a specified theme from the committee. For the educational software, we had to make software that presents the Universe. Since I was only one at my project I gathered a friend of mine to help me design the application. The result? It was the first time I have ever coded/thinking about the application architecture for 24 hours, having just a 30 mins nap. On this way I want to say thanks to Alin (http://awkwardgames.wordpress.com) for helping me making the app. He was the DirectX guru, and he made the 3d-ish thing.
In the end, I made it up to the 5th place, but for me is ok. I think the experience gathered from whole the camp is worth even if I haven’t managed to get (again) the 1st place. Only 8 points difference to 1st place. Our application, named iStar, was a 3d explorer of the universe, but the downside was that it had too little scientific content.
I will upload the iStar application as soon as I can get it from the committee. In the meantime here is InfoCenter source code as I promised in the last post . You should first install the application and then run the source code.
Update: Here is the iStar application: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6V4JA060

Well, here I am. Galaciuc, Vrancea, Romania, at InfoEducatie 2009, the 16th edition.
Today I’ve just presented my project, so I have finished very early, and now I can do other things like going to the seminars or having fun with friends. Here are some of my opinions about this contest until now:
1) Despite of the fact that I’ve heard some "bad things" about some aspects of the contest, they weren’t ALL true. One that is true is the fact that are some guys that just want to crash you and your project, hoping they will get ahead you, making kind of "unfair" competition. But of course this is counteracted by some guys that you have useful and interesting discussions.
2) The judging committee is just AWESOME! Especially at the Utility software and web. They are trying to see if you really deserve the points you should get, and also trying to see if you really made up that code (btw, there were some "issues" with some guys, but I prefer not to talk about it right now)
3) The whole camp is very cool. I enjoy every moment here, and until right now I’ve made some new friends.
Concerning my application, InfoCenter, I decided that I will release it (with source code included) under Creative Commons license.
See you after the contest

Hey I’m a student now.
I’ve just checked the official list(http://admitere.utcluj.ro/rezultate2009/?c=calculatoare&t=admisi&l=D) to see if I was assigned correctly. So starting today I’m a student at Technical University Cluj-Napoca, Computers section. Like I said some time ago, due to winning the 1st place at CIA I was assigned without the Math Test.

Are you sure? (intro)
Are you sure that God doesn’t exist?
Are you sure that the Bible isn’t God’s Word?
Are you sure there will be no judge?
Are you sure that it is not Eternity?
This are the question Petru Popovici tries to answer. I recommend you to read this document(is only 15 pages, though) and surely you will find some answers at your questions.
Here is the document: Are you sure?
PS: This is the Romanian version.

Yey! Congrats to the Sytech team for winning the Software Design competition (known as the “queen” of the competition, because is the “hardest”) and Cosmin Ilie for winning the IT Challenge competition. Both of them are students at the UAIC Iasi.
The winners got the 1st place out of approximately 300.000 students from 142 countries all over the world.
Imagine Cup is one of the biggest international contests that took part for the first time in 2003 created by Microsoft. This year’s theme was: “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.".
Hope we will win again next year. I want to go too, to win!

Hello again.
I just got back from Suceava where I had to present my project. This was the national phase of the CIA contest. I got on the 1st place with 169 points out from 44 participants. Now I can "enjoy" learning for BAC examination since I can enter with 10 at the Technical University from Cluj-Napoca.
Overall the contest was very cool. We stayed there for 3 days and went sightseeing on the first and the third day. The contest itself wasn’t so hard but I’ve had to pay attention when presenting my project since the time was "my enemy". But all-in-all it was OK.
